God Works on a Need to Know Basis

Have you even noticed that God deals with us on a “need to know” basis? He gives us just enough information, but does not tell us the whole story. God did this even with the famous heroes of the Bible. God spoke to the very first patriarch, Abraham (at the time called Abram), and told him to move to an unknown land. Abraham asked, “Why?” and God said, “I will make you a great nation.” Abraham said, “Cool. How?” God replied, “You’ll find out.” Then Abraham said, “You’re not gonna tell me? That’s not fair!” God said, “If you knew the details, you’d never go.” The same thing happened with St. Peter. Jesus said to him, “Follow me and I will make you a fisher of men.” Peter asked, “Why?” and Jesus replied, “To usher in the Kingdom of God.” Peter said, “Cool. Do I get to wear a crown?” Jesus said, “You’ll find out.” Then Peter said, “You’re not gonna tell me? That’s not fair!” Jesus said, “If you knew the details, you’d never follow me.”
