Judge Won't Put Rapist in Jail Because He Might Get Hurt

The next time somebody tries to tell you that the American justice system treats people the same way regardless of income, laugh really hard and then refer the poor, stupid soul to the shenanigans of Jan Jurden, a superior court judge in Delaware. The discovery process in a related civil lawsuit has revealed that Jurden sentenced mega-rich du Pont heir Robert H. Richards IV to mere probation for the crime of raping his own 3-year-old daughter. In her bizarro court order, the lenient judge insisted that Richards “will not fare well” in prison. Thus, instead of a prison sentence, Richards the affluent rapist is happily getting psychological treatment, reports The News Journal.

Catholics Fleeing Crimea

Members of the Ukrainian Catholic Church are fleeing Crimea to escape threats of arrest and property seizures, a priest told Catholic News Service just four days after Russia finalized the region’s annexation. “The situation remains very serious, and we don’t know what will happen — the new government here is portraying us all as nationalists and extremists,” said Father Mykhailo Milchakovskyi, a parish rector and military chaplain from Kerch, Crimea. He said officials from Russia’s Federal Security Service, or FSB, had called him in for questioning about his community and to ask whether he “recognized the new order.”

Abp. Chaput Chimes in on German Bishops' Stance on Communion for Remarried

Catholic Culture reports:

Archbishop Charles Chaput of Philadelphia said in an interview that he is “curious” about the German bishops' stance on administering Holy Communion to those who have remarried outside the Church. Asserting that he is “not open to changing the teachings of Christ,” Archbishop Chaput told Catholic News Service that “people who choose a state that's contrary to the teachings of Jesus are required, to be in union with the Church and Jesus, to rectify that situation."

The 15 Dumbest Anti–Hobby Lobby Signs at the Supreme Court

Funny. In a mind-blowingly stupid way.

Supporters of an Affordable Care Act mandate that requires religious business people to violate their beliefs were out in full force this morning at the U.S. Supreme Court. The high court heard arguments in Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores, which pits Obamacare against small businesses seeking to preserve personal and religious freedom. Here’s a look at some of the most nonsensical and ridiculous signs and participants at Tuesday’s rally.

U.S. Media Ignores British Prenatal Incineration Scandal

Silence is sometimes complicity.

On Monday, The UK's Daily Telegraph spotlighted the scoop of another British media outlet, Channel 4, which discovered the beyond abhorrent practice of 10 NHS hospitals incinerating over 15,000 bodies of unborn babies from miscarriages and abortions. The investigation by the Channel 4 program Dispatches found that some of the infants' remains were even used to heat the medical facilities.

Administration: Yes, We Can Force You To Cooperate in Killing Your Grandchild

Terence Jeffrey has the horrible truth of it:

Question: Does the Obama administration claim the right to force Americans to cooperate in killing their own grandchildren? Answer: Yes. On the face of it, this seems like an outrageous claim. But it is true. The outrage is what the government is demanding Americans do. The Affordable Care Act — aka Obamacare — includes a "requirement to maintain minimum essential coverage." The main part of this "requirement" says: "An applicable individual shall for each month beginning after 2013 ensure that the individual, and any dependent of the individual who is an applicable individual, is covered under minimum essential coverage for such month."

Candace Cameron Bure Talks of her Faith, DWTS Crowd Cheers

No skimpy outfits for her.

Even DJ Tanner has her limits! Candace Cameron Bure has continued to make it known that she won't be donning skimpy outfits on Season 18 of Dancing With the Stars. On Monday, March 24, the Full House alum received huge support from the audience when she once again spoke about her values and Christian faith during her pre-taped rehearsal footage. "I'm a Christian. My life revolves around my relationship with Jesus Christ," Bure, 37, said before dancing the rumba with partner Mark Ballas. "So with the overall tone of the dance and the costumes I'm not going to take a backseat. My voice will definitely be heard." When Bure mentioned her faith, "the entire crowd in the ballroom cheered and clapped really loudly," an onlooker told Us Weekly. She also had several family members attending the live show.

Gay Pride Parade Won't Bend Rules for Catholic League's Bill Donohue

Yeah, kinda' knew that was coming.

Bill Donohue comments on his exchange with officials from New York’s Heritage of Pride parade: For the past few days I have been engaged in an e-mail conversation with officials from the Heritage of Pride parade, New York’s annual gay event; the dialogue has been cordial. I asked to join the parade under a banner that would read, “Straight is Great.” The purpose of my request was to see just how far they would go without forcing me to abide by their rules. It didn’t take long before they did. Today, I informed Heritage of Pride officials that I objected to their rule requiring me to attend gay training sessions, or what they call “information” sessions. “I don’t agree with your rule,” I said. They responded by saying that attendance was “mandatory.”

Happiest Mass I Ever Attended Was a Funeral

Wow. Another great piece from one of the best Catholic writers out there.

It started with a death on Ash Wednesday. My father had been ill, and on the Monday before Lent, I felt the push to pray that he not be alone. I prayed too—no, I wanted—that my mother, who had spent the last year driving to Orange, Texas, nearly every day to keep him company, would not be robbed of those last few moments of their marriage. I prayed that she would not be alone either. On Tuesday, Dad took a turn for the worse. When my mother called me, I shared my prayer—said it was my "wish" prayer, and she said it was a good wish. He passed on Ash Wednesday, with my mother holding his hand, and there were two people with her. My first thought, upon hearing this was, "God, I didn't mean now!"

Amanda Marcotte: Babies are time-sucking monsters, abortion like removing a cavity

Sometimes pro-aborts forget to lie.

Most abortion advocates are careful to act as if they’re not really fans of abortion. No one likes abortion, they’ll say. It’s a necessary decision that is painful for most women and they always think long and hard about it, and it isn’t a choice that is made cavalierly. No one wants to have an abortion, they’ll say. It’s only about “choice”. Unfortunately, sometimes they let the mask slip and expose their rabid fanaticism for abortion show. The most recent person to do this is pro-abortion femisogynist extremist Amanda Marcotte in a two-part rant on Raw Story.

God Works on a Need to Know Basis

The Merry Catholic writes:

Have you even noticed that God deals with us on a “need to know” basis? He gives us just enough information, but does not tell us the whole story. God did this even with the famous heroes of the Bible. God spoke to the very first patriarch, Abraham (at the time called Abram), and told him to move to an unknown land. Abraham asked, “Why?” and God said, “I will make you a great nation.” Abraham said, “Cool. How?” God replied, “You’ll find out.” Then Abraham said, “You’re not gonna tell me? That’s not fair!” God said, “If you knew the details, you’d never go.” The same thing happened with St. Peter. Jesus said to him, “Follow me and I will make you a fisher of men.” Peter asked, “Why?” and Jesus replied, “To usher in the Kingdom of God.” Peter said, “Cool. Do I get to wear a crown?” Jesus said, “You’ll find out.” Then Peter said, “You’re not gonna tell me? That’s not fair!” Jesus said, “If you knew the details, you’d never follow me.”

Andrew Klavan on Object Permanence and Playing Peek-a-Boo with Reality

"Object permanence" is the understanding that something continues to exist even if you can't see it. According to the famous psychologist Jean Piaget, learning object permanence is one of a child's most important accomplishments. Babies teach themselves this essential life lesson by playing Peek-a-boo: covering their eyes in order to discover that when they look again, Mommy is still there. By about 18 to 24 months, a psychologically healthy child should come to understand that just because you cover your eyes and refuse to look at something, doesn't mean it actually ceases to exist. If, God forbid, a child does not learn object permanence, she might become a leftist.

Peace Pipe Smoking Liturgy Calls Down "Spirits"

Oh my. Sounds like hippie foolishness to me.

This is part two of a series of short videos featuring liturgical abuses by a dissident priest, Father Micahel Tegeder and Deacon Joseph Damiani. The Archdiocese is well aware that this takes place every Sunday. The Ojibway outreach, which looks more like a platform for nostalgic hippies to relive their past, has been in action since it was founded by Father Notebaart. It's also a recipient of Catholic Outreach funds. American Indians have been participating at Holy Mass for centuries without the benefit of such showmanship and shamanistic intervention. The pipe ceremony is intended to "call down spirits", but just what spirits are being called down?

Nobody is Born that Way, Gay Historians Say

Some historians are taking a big risk saying this.

Virtually no serious person disputes that in our society, people generally experience their gay or straight orientations as unchosen and unchangeable. But the LGBT community goes further, portraying itself as a naturally arising subset of every human population, with homosexuality being etched into some people’s DNA. Are gays indeed born that way? The question has immense political, social, and cultural repercussions. For example, some of the debate over applying the Constitution’s equal protection clause to gays and lesbians focuses on whether gayness is an inborn characteristic. And the major argument gays and lesbians have made for religious affirmation has been, “God made me this way.”

New Look at the Benefits of Contraception

"Benefits" with a side effect of death.

Since the Griswold Supreme Court decision in 1965, contraception has become integrated into almost every facet of American culture. Whole industries have sprung up around it, and governments and schools around the nation spend millions giving contraception out for “free.” And, of course, the federal government is now saying almost every single business and non-profit organization in America must provide it for “free” to employees. Which makes some recent noise in mainstream media sources about the harms of contraception quite interesting, and potentially very effective to spreading the word about the real harms of contraception to women. First it was former Winter Olympics hopeful and former Townhall.com intern Megan Henry — sidelined due to use of the intrauterine device NuVaRing — whose joining of a class-action lawsuit against NuVaRing parent company Merck Pharmaceuticals made news across the country.

Planned Parenthood Boss to Deliver Commencement at Women's College

The controversial decision to select Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, as the commencement speaker at the private, all-women’s Barnard College in New York City has prompted some righteous indignation. “It is truly devastating that Barnard chose a speaker who bears the banner of abortion—one of the most polarizing, impassioned subjects of morality in the history of modern civilization,” Kate Christensen, a Barnard College senior and president of the Columbia University College Republicans, wrote in an op-ed for The Columbia Spectator. “For an event that is supposed to be celebratory, uniting, and joyous, why must the school choose a speaker who is so deeply divisive?”

An Alarming Lack of CS Lewis in CS Lewis Lecture

But the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church found time to mention "stardust" and "wisdom-teachers."

Most of us were baffled when Westminster College announced that Katharine Jefferts Schori, the presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, would deliver the C.S. Lewis Lecture on science and religion. IRD colleague Bart Gingerich pointed out that the breadth of differences between the two figures is too expansive to summarize. The New Testament tells us the Rich Man could see Lazarus over the gulf between the Inferno and Paradise. Judging from this lecture, it’s doubtful Schori can see Lewis over the gulf that separates them.

Times Calls God a "She" for PC History Month

Newsbusters has the story. They're reporting on it mainly because nobody else reads Time Magazine.

All the major monotheistic religions – Judaism, Christianity, Islam – depict God as a “He.” From the beginning of the the Old Testament, God refers to Himself using masculine pronouns. But what’s 5,000 years of tradition and theological understanding against Women’s History Month, 2014? God, you see, is a she, according to a woman pastor TIME Magazine enlisted to write on religion in honor of the month-long PC hug-fest. The article “God’s Feminine Side” by the clearly theologically confused Pastor Debbie Blue, picks and chooses Bible verses with feminine language and analogies made to female animals to prove the point that God must have a feminine side. Blue calls it, “the divine him/her/it.”

As reported Friday, attorneys with Liberty Institute flew to Colorado Springs following the news that an Air Force Academy cadet had removed a Bible verse from his whiteboard outside his dorm room, apparently after anti-Christian zealot Mikey Weinstein of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation complained about it. But Liberty Institute learned that the unidentified cadet had voluntarily removed the verse and it had nothing to do with Weinstein's complaint.

Shock Headline: Catholic Hospital Coerced a Woman to Abort

Badger Catholic has the very well researched story:

Hi Everyone, For those of you who don't know, Dr. Rose was my doctor for my most recent pregnancy. The care was so bad, that we suspected he was an abortionist. Dr. Carl Rose (who works at Mayo Clinic in Rochester and comes to La Crosse to work with OB/GYN patients), seemed very callous toward the life of our child. In late January, in an effort to find out the truth about the doctor, I called Mayo Clinic in Rochester and asked if Dr. Rose would provide an abortion. Surprisingly, the doctor's receptionist said that he would, and he has provided abortions. She said that he provides abortions up to 20 weeks plus 6 days and after some questioning she basically said that he will do it for any reason, according to the woman's wishes. This is the doctor who was supposed to take care of me and my baby during my difficult pregnancy!

The Catholic Position on Abortion is Fully in Line with Science

Thomas Jackson writes:

At the earliest stages of pregnancy the future body that the zygote will acquire has not yet developed. But the complement of genes that will govern and direct that development is fully present from the moment of conception. It is a continuing unified coherence that will last until the person’s death, perhaps many decades in the future, despite the fact that the cells that contain it will change many times. From the first moment the genes are acting as a coherent unity, co-operating and inter-acting and exchanging information with each other, sometimes over vast chromosomal distances, as they direct the bewilderingly complex development of the zygote, surely one of the greatest wonders that nature has to offer.
