Pope Pledges to Baptize Mother’s Baby After She Rejects Abortion

Wow.

A mother who decided to reject her boyfriend’s request for her to get an abortion received a surprise call from Pope Francis — who told her he would be glad to baptize her baby. Anna Romano became pregnant after having a relationship with a married man, who told her he would not help her raise the baby and pressured her to have an abortion. Not wanting to compound one mistake with another, Romano refused and will give birth. In a desperate plea for help, she wrote to Pope Francis for advice. In a new personal outreach to Catholics across the globe, Pope Francis picked up the phone and called Romano.

This is what happens when you have a Latino Pope. I am so thankful for his example of faithfulness. I've only been Catholic since the '80’s, but I've been struck by how much JPIi, then BXVI and now Papa Francis teach by their example, each building on their predecessors.

I'm curious to know how this story fits into an article I read the other day where the Vatican denies that Pope Francis called a young man in the UK who wrote to him, struggling with his same-sex attraction, and Pope Francis tells him that his "homosexuality doesn't matter".

(The Vatican flatly denied that the Pope would make any such phone call, although based on THIS article is appears that he does make random phone calls...)
