What's most infuriating is the fact that the Vatican doesn't even issue a pro forma condemnation!

I would suggest all of you read this op-ed I wrote for the Jerusalem Post in Israel:

Ever since JPII's papacy, the Vatican has been pathetic on Islam. How much moral courage does it take to call genocide what it is, to call for Catholics to pray for the conversion of Muslims, at the very least???

Not even the deacon who linked to this can express moral outrage at the murder of the innocent? No wonder people say that Catholicism emasculates men!

Nostra Aetate's embrace of Islam is perhaps the worst piece of doctrinal excrement to come out of the Vatican.

It now appears there is less to this story than meets the eye.

1. The Vatican never confirmed that he was beheaded -- news reports have jumped to that conclusion. The initial report from Fides last Monday acknowledged that Fr. Murad had been killed, but said the circumstances were unclear.

2. On Friday, the Custos declared that these reports are all false. The Franciscan missionaries are saying all the priests in the region are still alive.

This should serve as a reminder to us all that the first casualty of war is truth.
