Atheism, Evidence, and the God of the Gaps

This website attempts to facilitate discussions between atheists and Catholics. Good luck with that.

Many atheists say that all arguments for the existence of God are just fallacious “God-of-the-gaps” reasoning. They claim that any evidence offered for the existence of God, such as the beginning, contingency, and fine-tuning of the universe, are nothing more than appeals to ignorance. These arguments are supposedly on par with primitive explanations of natural events (such as lightning) that erroneously included God as a direct cause. Modern arguments for theism are likewise lampooned as primitive “God did it” explanations that will be usurped by modern science. The problem with the "God-of-the-gaps" objection is that it can have unintended consequences for atheism. Specifically, it makes atheism impossible to falsify, in the same way that most religious beliefs cannot be falsified. Rather than rely on science, "God-of-the-gaps" pushes atheism far away from being a scientific belief. Why is that the case?

Speaking as a scientist who is surrounded by atheists, their arguments are not very strong. Time to put them on the defensive, which is a market they have cornered.
First, their faith in science is evident. Usually, their scientific understanding and use of the scientific method, however, is not all that impressive. Ask them why they "believe" in evolution. They rarely understand that it is a theory supported by facts and if another explanation comes along, that is explained better, it is replaced. If not it stands. But you never "believe" in a theory or anything else for that matter. It is inductive logic prof via facts. They use the words of faith far too often. And they certainly play around with the same logical gaps. For example, in the beginning there was nothing...and it exploded. Lsten to most atheists try to define nothing as something. It can be quite amusing.

Because if there is one thing that these people are good at it is redefining words and revising history in order to prop up what can only be called their religion.

God is existence and God exists as God is love and God loves. God is three Persons and Persons act. The atheist exists, therefore, God exists. Let the atheist explain his existence and his rational, immortal soul being created out of nothing.

Oh my, it's jaw dropping to watch the shameless nature of how they do this. And since they get away with it, and because it's so necessary to maintaining their beliefs, the frequency of this redefining is increasing exponentially.

"Listen to most atheists try to define nothing as something. It can be quite amusing." I have listened to atheists define no religion or atheism as religion since 1962. I am not amused. I want my freedom back.
