The IRS cannot revoke a (501)(3) (c)or any other category of the church because the parishioners have paid their fair share of taxes as citizens and the church is held in trust for all future generations. The citizens, as parishioners, have paid their taxes. To tax the church would cause taxation without representation, two taxes for the citizens/parishioners and only one vote. The priests and parishioners do not surrender their citizenship when they exercise their freedom of religion, nor do they become two separate tax bills. Does the ACLU pay taxes, or the Lions Club?
