Rachel Balducci writes of love in a big family:

Two of the boys were recently getting on each other’s nerves a bit, nitpicking and cajoling and dancing that ancient, complicated family rhythm that is Brotherly Love.

Some days, it drives me nuts.

When boys are upset with each other, why must it end in physical interactions (and I don’t mean a hug)? Why is there never silent treatment and the cold shoulder involved? Of course I’m glad things are this way; it’s healthy to deal with grievances out in the open. It’s just that the alternative, while more psychologically damaging, is indeed much quieter.
