What Klavan Doesn't Love About Mad Men

It's hard not to be impressed with AMC's Mad Men but after being dazzled by it for a while my feelings were tempered. What I first thought was a Randian vs. Christianity morality play seemed to just mire itself in nihilism with no hope of redemption. I mean, isn't anybody happy or well adjusted? I stopped watching two seasons ago but I know Patrick still loves it. One of my favorite contemporary fiction authors Andrew Klavan still watches it but he's got some problems with it as well:

AMC’s Mad Men is yet one more product of television’s new golden age. The same combination of mindless leftism, foreign funding and ill-treatment of writers that caused the possibly fatal decline of American movies has chased talent and excellence to the little screen and shows like Mad Men are the delightful result.
