Father of a Downs Syndrome Child

Letters to Liam is one of those blogs I check out once in a while and I'm moved so often by the small and subtle things this father writes about. It also has best blog intro I've read in a long time:

It wasn’t supposed to be this way.

I had this blog well planned out. It was going to be a sequence of letters to my soon-to-be-born son Liam, on how to be a happy, successful adult, covering “manhood and marriage, sound thinking and good feeling, virtue and the good life.” I have a good number of posts already written, and was designing the artwork.

But Liam came (a month early, but it looks like that’s going to be OK), and blew a hole in the plans I had in his name by having an extra chromosome. Down’s syndrome. We go to the geneticist on Monday, but we already have the bottom line.
