Graphic Anti-Tobacco Ads. Why not Abortion?

New federal regulations allow gruesome pictures to be shown to dissuade smoking. The experts say that the more gruesome the photos, the more effective they are. But we're still not allowed to show gruesome pictures of abortion. Hmmm...wonder why?

Would a gruesome picture of a cancer-ravaged mouth with rotting teeth make you think twice about buying a pack of cigarettes?

That’s the goal of new federal regulations expected to go into effect within three years. The rules will require tobacco companies to cover at least half of the front and back of packages with graphic — and possibly gruesome — images illustrating the dangers of smoking.

Dennis Leary had a comedy bit fifteen years ago suggesting that they take the surgeon general's warning and make it the full size of the pack. Call 'em death sticks, with a big skull and crossbones on the front; people would line up around the block. "Gotta get my death sticks."

I wonder if he'll get any royalties.

But you're right, the disconnect and hypocrisy in this is obvious.

I saw this on the news this morning and had the same thought!!

The equivalent to a rotting lung on a pack of cigarettes is an ultrasound showing the living heartbeat of the child.

And you wonder why pro-aborts are against mandatory ultrasounds prior to the procedure.
