Quoting A Fictional Thomas More

From the Fire comes an interesting point.

I recently watched the Dr. Doug Kmiec and Dr. Hadley Arkes debate that happened a month ago at Villanova. One of the debaters, Dr. Kmiec, engaged in one of my most disliked pet peeves; quoting the fictional St. Thomas More.

I really enjoy the movie a Man for All Seasons, as well as the play, but there is a problem with it; it is not real. The acting and characterization are excellent but St. Thomas More did not actually say many of the statements in the movie.

Professor Kmiec can say whatever he wants when it comes to shilling for his messiah. And he certainly says it in an eloquent way.

But however "true [to the] faith" and with "ready hands" he fancies himself to be, he is NOT! the man of which JG Holland speaks in the great poem "Give us Men". Here's part of it:

God give us men. A time like this demands

Strong minds, great hearts, true faith and ready hands!

Men whom the lust of office does not kill,

Men whom the spoils of office cannot buy,

Men who possess opinions and a will,

Men who love honor, men who cannot lie.
