Why I Want Obama To Fail

I'm not sure I understand the expectation that we're all supposed to support the President as if he's coming in as a bipedal tabula rasa who we won't know what to expect from until he does it. Anyone who's paying attention knows enough to wish him failure in many respects. Warner Todd Huston (who may be the busiest blogger in the world) has a few things to say about it over at Stop The ACLU:

An extremely liberal co-worker of mine — he’s in the past said that the “rich” should be killed, for instance — asked me a serious question by which he felt he could gauge whether or not I was a “real” American in his eyes during the rise of the age of Obama. He wondered whether I wish success for Barack Obama as our president. After a few seconds of reflection I had to honestly give a qualified “no” in answer to his query. Naturally this fellow went off about how it was unAmerican to wish the president to fail and how it would damage the country. But, after he briefly calmed down, and brief calm is usually all we can expect from him, I gave him a fuller explanation.

I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of "wanting Obama to fail". It's not necessarily the man himself, just everything he stands for. Why is it we seem to be in the minority?

WOW I can't remember any so called liberal ever saying "I want Bush to fail" He would have been called a traitor.
I didn't like most of his policies, but FAIL? He is now the commander of our military forces. Do you want them to fail? He represents the Constitution. Do you want it to fail? He is America's leader. Do you want America to fail? Everything? Do you want our soldiers to stay in Iraq for 100 years. Do you want Bin Ladin to live? Do you want education to fail, or health care? EVERYTHING?
Jen, you are the prototype conservative. I would say that anybody that wants our president to fail, Democrat or Republican is not much different than Bin Ladin. He wants what you want. Hope that makes you feel good. You, like Rush Limbaugh, are a traitor.

i just have to ask this: is this really about hurt pride or is this about the well being of our country?

wanting a president to fail is a terrible thing, actually, to invoke regardless of whether we do or do not agree with him or(perhaps a future) her.

failing means an even worse economy and a depression so severe many of us could end up homeless. it means more businesses would collapse, large and small. it means more jobs lost.

is this REALLY what you want? i don't believe that.

there is never a time, imho, that we should wish ill on another. now, in these very hard times, we DO need to wish well.
